Sidekick
Inside the Shopify admin, Sidekick can report where your imports stand, why rows failed the checks, and what the last export changed in your store, once you approve Portaim for the conversation.
Before you begin
Sidekick only sees Portaim when the app is installed from the Shopify App Store and you are using it inside the Shopify admin. The standalone app at app.portaim.com has no Sidekick connection.
Approve Portaim for the conversation
Sidekick asks for your permission before it uses an app, and the approval lasts for the current conversation (Shopify’s own description: Get help and guidance from Sidekick).
- In the Sidekick panel, type
@and pick Portaim. - Approve the prompt.
- Ask your question.
What you can ask

| “What’s the status of my product imports?” | Which files are waiting for you, which are being processed, which are done, each with a link to the right step. |
| “Why did my last import have errors?” | The check results grouped by field, how many rows each problem affects, and which ones Portaim fixes in one click. |
| “What did Portaim change in my store?” | How many products the last export created and updated, which ones failed, and Shopify’s reason for each. |
Phrasing does not have to match. “Which import is stuck?”, “What went wrong with the supplier file?” and “Did the price update go through?” reach the same answers.
What Sidekick does not do
Sidekick reads. Mapping columns, fixing rows and exporting happen in Portaim, and every answer links to the step where you do that. Sidekick does not upload a spreadsheet for you or bulk-import products on its own; the guide Can Shopify Sidekick import products from a spreadsheet? explains what it does with products by itself and where Portaim takes over.
Good to know
- Answers cover the store you are signed into. An import made in the standalone app for the same store is included once the store is connected.
- Sidekick’s approval is per conversation. A new conversation asks again.
