Your first import
Install Portaim or create a free account, upload a supplier file, confirm the mapping, fix what the checks find, and export to Shopify.
You can try all of this first, without an account: on portaim.com, click Try it now and upload your file, or pick one of the sample files. The trial runs the same steps and ends with the Shopify-ready CSV. Trial files are limited to 10 MB and the first 1,000 rows, a trial is deleted after 24 hours, and creating an account from it keeps the work.
Before you begin
- A product file from your supplier: CSV, XLSX or XLS, or a link to one. Any column layout works; you do not need to rename headers to match Shopify.
- Optional: a Shopify store. Without one you still get a Shopify-ready CSV at the end. With one, Portaim writes the products straight into the store.
1. Open Portaim
Either way is free.
- From the Shopify App Store. Install Portaim and open it from the admin’s Apps menu. Your store is connected already.
- Standalone. Create an account at app.portaim.com/register. You can connect a store later from Settings, or never.
2. Upload the file
On the dashboard, click Upload File and drop the file in, or open the menu next to it and choose From a link to paste a Google Drive, Google Sheets, Dropbox or direct file URL. If the workbook has several sheets, pick one. If the headers are not on the first row, point Portaim at the right row, or tell it the file has no header row at all.
Portaim reads the file and starts mapping the columns in the background. A WooCommerce export is recognised and converted on the way in; a file that is already in Shopify’s format is mapped column for column. Details: Upload a file.
3. Confirm the mapping
The mapping editor shows one column per Shopify field with a live preview of the first rows. Check the ones that matter most: title, price, SKU, images, and the option columns if your file has variants. Click a column’s header to change its source column or how it is built. The Source columns card lists any column still unmapped; map it or skip it.
Click Confirm mapping. Portaim remembers this layout, so the next file from the same supplier is mapped the same way without asking. Details: Map columns.
4. Fix what the checks find
Portaim runs its checks against every row and groups the results. Errors have to be resolved before export; warnings do not. Most errors go away with the automatic fixes Portaim applies when the step opens, and the rest with value mapping, an AI suggestion or an edit in the cell. If a few products are not worth fixing today, Skip what’s broken exports the rest and sets them aside. Details: Fix issues.
5. Export
Choose Download CSV to import the file through Shopify’s admin yourself, or Export to Shopify to let Portaim create the products in your connected store. Switch on Import as Draft if you want to review them in Shopify before they go live. Details: Export.
Note Nothing reaches your store before this step. Every mapping, fix and preview up to here is a dry run.
Where help lives
The ? in the header opens the same menu on every screen: a walkthrough of the page you are on, the docs for that step, all the documentation, and how to reach us.
